Three from the Lab

What’s up everybody? We’ve played it safe these last couple of weeks but, today, I think it’s time that we branched out to someone new, once again. A company so fresh that they don’t even seem to have a website yet. But they still feature prominently in my local hot sauce shop.

Meet Heat Lab. A small, york-based business with three different flavours and a science-themed aesthetic that’s very much after my own heart.

The wrinkled heat shrink around their bottle necks may show their lack of experience but it says nothing about the quality within. And honestly, I have high hopes for this trio.

Three Green Kings

Hey folks, I know that it’s the fourth today but it’s still my first review since december. So happy new year!

This time around, the postal service has been a little more on point and I’ve been a little more prepared, as well. Meaning that I’ve got not one, not two but a whopping three different green chilli sauces to show off. Each from a producer who’s work is entirely new to me and who uses a highly unusual ingredient, as well.

For the start of twenty twenty-two, I bring you Great Scott Hot Sauce’s Apple, Gooseberry & Serrano, Orriss & Son’s jalapeño and nettle “Fresh Tendrils” and Mack Chilli’s Jalapearno. Which is an awful portmanteaux but definitely gets its key ingredients across.

The Cooper Crew

Hello again, my fellow freaks.

Today, we’re going to take a look at another trio of american imports. The new range from rock legend and fellow madman, Alice Cooper:

Though their actual manufacturer turns out to be one of our previous features. The well-known and highly regarded company that is CaJohn’s.

Previously, I was a big fan of their 7-pot primo sauce, until the fakeness of it’s lemon oil came through. So I’m interested to see how CaJohn’s handle the serrano, habanero and reaper in today’s products and whether they’ll taste just that little bit more real.

Hippy Heat

Hola, mi amigos! It’s the fifteenth today and, apparently, that means mexican independence day.

So, while I don’t have anything truly mexican to offer you, I am going to be showing off a mexican-styled sauce, in keeping with the occasion. And that product is Angry Goat Pepper Co.’s Hippy Dippy Green:

One which you may well know as the second wing on Hot Ones’ eighth season but which interested me for entirely different reasons.

This is a verde sauce. Not just a green sauce – Despite that being the literal translation – but a tomatillo salsa in a bottle.

An american take on a classic mexican dip, with a few less than classic additions to spice things up a bit.

Mexican Import

Greetings everyone and welcome back to another tuesday chilli review.

Now that we’re well into my third year, I’ve covered a lot of condiments and struck a healthy balance between local and imported foodstuffs but there’s one respect in which I’ve been a little remiss: The vast majority of my imports have come from a single company. From Hot Headz.

And sure, they are the UK’s largest chilli product importer but they aren’t the only one. So today, as a small start to setting things straight, I’m going to look at a couple of sauces from Mex Grocer instead.
