Happy tuesday again, everyone. This week, I’ve got something wicked to show you, from down in somerset.
The “Thirsty Dog” barbecue and sweet pepper “Roco Loco” sauces, from The Wicked Chilli. One using an unusual blend of jalapeño and naga chillies to heat up its cola and smoked paprika base. While the other mixes rare rocoto chillies with a more standard, unnamed variety and some red bells, for a purer pepper flavour.
For once, though, it’s not the flavour of those rare chillies that excites me but the unique feel of the rocoto’s heat. The unique gum tingle which made me love Char Man’s Caribbean sauce and which is integral to a few specific peruvian dishes.
I’m a huge fan of that pepper and I’m really hoping that its prominent position on the label of today’s red chilli sauce means that The Wicked Chilli are using it to the fullest. Yet I’m also very curious what the unsmoked jalapeño and naga bring to the flavour of their barbecue sauce.

These are the Korean and Passion Fruit Korean sauces from Gods of Sauces. An australian company who popped up, like many, in response to covid precautions shutting down their in-person food business. So, like our good friend at Alkemio Kitchen, they’ve only been around for a year or two. And yet they’re already here in the UK, courtesy of Aussie Hot Sauces.
Today, I’m going to be trying out their mildest two. But there are plenty more available, if the company’s style catches your interest, like it did mine.
So, now that we’re back onto sweet sauces, what do you lot say we take another look at one of my favourite fruit?
This, here, is Can I Play with Mangos – A product that I promised to talk about back when I tried Rock A Doodle Do’s other, more mythology-themed sauces. Because, while that pair highlighted their irish heritage, the company’s origins lie elsewhere. In classic rock and metal puns.
But, truth be told, I’ve felt no urgency in getting to their Iron Maiden-inspired mango and habanero sauce because, hard as such a pairing is to screw up, Rock A Doodle Do’s last feature didn’t exactly fill me with confidence.
So, just in case they have gone that extra mile somehow, I’m going to throw in another couple of mango sauces alongside theirs. Both with rather more exciting chillies.
