Mexican Sky

Hola, mi amigos! Tomorrow is mexican independence day. So, today, we’re going to take a little look at something thematically appropriate, imported by Mex Grocer.

This huge bottle holds Ki’ Gourmet’s Cielo Rojo. Or “Red Sky”, for those of you who don’t speak spanish. A blackberry and chipotle morita sauce, which sounds unlike anything that I’ve had before.

Ooft! That’s Hot!

So, folks, I talked a bit about Carrington’s Flaming Chup in last week’s harissa review and I thought that that would be a great excuse to follow up with another of their products, today. A post on their Chillichup, which I’ve had in reserve for a while.

Then Encona came along, however, with an even more ketchup-y rework of their old “Carolina Reaper Sauce”. And I just couldn’t do it.

Two ketchups in a row was too much. So, instead, here are couple of other sauces that I’ve had on the back burner for a bit. The original and chipotle versions of Ooft!, from Island Girl Ltd:

Another small company, run by a couple in scotland, using an old, trinidadian family recipe. Though not, perhaps, the mustard-based one you might expect.

I’ve never seen that ingredient in any other chilli product and I’m very curious to see what it does for Ooft!

The One that Got Away

Happy tuesday, spice lovers and welcome back to another fiery food review.

Recently, we’ve been looking at a lot of rather strong sauces – Anywhere from regular “hot” to pushing the upper limits of what we all know to be possible – and last week’s “mild” cranberry chocolate did nothing to bring the heat back down. So today, I’d like to show you something more medium that I’ve been holding onto for quite a while:

AppleChipotle

Hot-Headz’ own Apple Chipotle Bourbon BBQ.

I discovered this barbecue sauce all the way back in twenty-seventeen and was so impressed that I talked my local chilli shop into stocking it. But, to my dismay, it was discontinued before I could put my love for it into words online.

Only recently has it resurfaced, giving me the opportunity to talk about it oncemore, but I’m not going to let it get away from me again. So please, read on and discover what it is that makes today’s product my all time favourite from Hot-Headz.

The Brothers Shrove

Happy pancake day again, everybody! It’s time for my favourite food-based holiday oncemore and, this time, I’m featuring not just one syrup but two. Two different flavours from the Chilli Brothers:

ChilliBrothers

Not that you can tell the pair apart at first glance. Or even second or third.

No, their weapons-grade bottles are identical in all but the ingredients lists, making it real hard to know what you’re grabbing off the shelf. And, unfortunately, I can’t help you with that.

What I can help you with, though, is knowing what each variety brings to the table. So that you at least know which one you should be grabbing for your pancakes, if any.
