Hey folks, today I’ve got something a little strange for you. Something that I just randomly came across in one of my local supermarkets and felt I had to feature. Because, while I’ve talked about McIlhenny Co.’s Tabasco Brand Scorpion Sauce and their Chipotle Cola Marinade, I’ve never seen a “Tobasco” sauce before.
Except, of course, when people misspell it online.
Today’s item, however, has the word slapped right across its centre, beneath the “Dipitt” company name, and it looks a lot more like lawsuit dodging than a mistake, to me. But how does it really compare to the original?
Merry christmas, everyone! Or christmas eve, I suppose, but it’s the closest that I’m going to get, what with my weekly, tuesday upload schedule. And I’m doing a themed post either way!
Why? Because I don’t make a penny from my blog work. I do this all for my own enjoyment. My passion for my craft and for others’ craft sauce.
It may seem cheesy to some of you but it’s a tonne of fun, for me, to break from the norm and force my writing to fit a secondary topic. Be it a holiday, a recent film or just a game that I’m into. And it’s even better when I get to explain a lesser known celebration, like walpurgis nacht.
I’m going to keep doing these seasonal specials and I’ll try my best to make them as topical as I can but today’s something of a weird one.
I can’t show you something all christmas gifty or suited for xmas eating, because no small business is going to offer next day delivery on the biggest holiday of the year. It has to be something that’ll still be relevant in the months to come, so here’s what I’ve come up with:
The three ghosts of christmas.
Only, instead of past, present and future, we have Hot-Headz, Morrisons and Meat Lust. All three making full use of the legendary first superhot, yet each bringing its own flavour, texture and price point to the party.

Hey folks, this week we’re exploring the far reaches of the UK with a couple of sauces from northern irish producer, Rock A Doodle Do. A company built on classic metal music puns.
If that’s what you’re after, though, you’re going to have to be patient because I’m not featuring their Can I Play with Mangos quite yet. Instead, I’m focussing on their “Irish Legends” bundle, designed to shine a light on the local mythology. Because, what can I say? I’m a sucker for fantasy themes done well.
It doesn’t take a real fantasy fan to know the one on the left, though. The banshee, famous for its bone-chilling, soul-piercing shriek, is definitely a part of popular culture. Albeit a tad less so than your dragons, unicorns and vampires.
It’s the second sauce – The one on the right – where we see something that I’d consider genuinely obscure.
The Pooka, according to Rock A Doodle Do, is “a Malevolent Spirit and a shape-shifter that can take any form it chooses”. Unlikely to do humans any harm but always eager to be their horse for a wild and death-defying night’s ride, taking delight in their terror.
What they don’t say, however, is that this dark creature is also the steed of the more well-known dullahan – The headless horseman – and that it, like the banshee, can be a deathly omen.
You’d think that that would be a selling point for these sauces.
Greetings again everybody. Last week I showed you a hotter, more sophisticated and way more citrusy take on habanero Tabasco. An item that prided itself on achieving a complexity of flavour with one of the simplest ingredients lists that I’ve ever laid eyes upon.
A simple, familiar, louisiana-style sauce, properly aged and fermented to get the most out of its peppers.
Today, we’re taking that same concept and applying it to a chilli that I’ve never seen used before – Green cayenne.
We’re looking at The General’s Hot Sauce and their Marine Green, complete with a pretty stunning and weighty, grenade-shaped bottle:
A custom container that I’m sure has sold many a sauce of theirs, state side, but has also upped the costs involved quite substantially. I don’t normally talk about price but this particular product is going for £12.99, after import, from Hot-Headz and, at that price, you’re gonna want to be sure that you’re getting your money’s worth.
So, unless you’re prepared to drop double digits on a(n admittedly stellar-looking) bottle alone, I strongly suggest that you read on to find out what makes this week’s item special.
Hello again, folks. As you’ve probably noticed, I like to deal most in the weird and wonderful but, with the day of my christmas recap steadily approaching, I’d like to switch it up a little and show you all something made for a broader appeal. Something super simple, featuring a mere two ingredients but boasting a whole world of sophistication.
Today, what I want to show you is Shake – The first sauce from Bad Boy Chilli Co and, at the time I purchased it, their only non-mash product.
As a mash company, they’re all about ageing and fermenting their chillies and, for this particular item, they make a big deal out of the whiskey casks that they use. Which might be impressive if it weren’t what McIlhenny Co already do producing Tabasco.
How does today’s product hold up in light of that fact? Well, that’s the point of today’s review. You’re going to have to read on and find out.
