Hello again, everyone. I’ve had today’s trio in my back pocket for a little while know and, as I understand it, so have two of the companies involved. Because, despite their products looking completely different, both Hot Pods and Foraged Fire have done their absolute utmost to highlight the flavours of fermented honey and garlic, in these two:
And, though our third item may have been made a little quicker, it still promises the same sweet syrup and bold root, at its core:
It’s Torchbearer’s Honey Garlic and, while it promises to be rather milder than their last garlic sauce, that reaper concoction was far from all heat. If They can bring the same creaminess and garlic kick to today’s product, without the world record chilli, my bottle’s going to be gone in no time!
So, without further ado, let’s take a closer look at the lot and see how all three manage to set themselves apart.

That sauce was one of the hottest and most painful natural products that I’ve had but it wasn’t a bad taste at all, so I thought I’d try something else from its makers, Burns & McCoy. Something on completely the opposite end of the heat spectrum.
It comes packaged in far paler tones and what colour it does have is almost entirely green. You can immediately see that it’s not being sold on its heat and for good reason. It’s probably the mildest
product that I’ve had, just barely tickling the back of my throat when I eat a full spoonful.
So today, we’re going to be focussing far more on the flavour of this Avocado Fire Roasted Poblano vinaigrette, to find out if the company can still hold their own when they’re not melting my face off.
Hey folks, bit of a last minute switcheroo this week.
I was going to be showing you another Mahi product – One of the many extra marinades that they sent me recently – but then I took another look at its ingredients list and realised something:
Their Lime & Coriander Rub & Marinade has no chilli in it!
And sure, I’ve featured a couple of non-chilli products before and done recipes that focused on non-chilli spices but that’s the thing; they all focused on their heat source.
The marinade in question does no such thing. Despite claiming a medium heat intensity, it has no burn to it, nor any obvious black pepper flavour. It’s just sweet yet tangy, in a way that makes it rather like ranch dressing.
I can imagine it would make a gorgeous caesar salad with a bit of anchovy blended into it or an equally wonderful new potato one without but, as a spice freak writing for other fiery food lovers, I just can’t make a main feature out of it.

It’s a chilli oil but, unlike most of the ones I’ve seen before, there’s a little more going on than just the chilli. This oil also has ginger and lemongrass for that authentic thai taste.
