Hey folks, it’s 2019 now and, having finished off a series that I started in 2018 just this week, I figure it’s time to look back at my plans going into the year. To see what I’ve accomplished, what’s still to come and what changes I want to make, if any, this time around.
Here goes.
First on my to do list for 2018 was changing the header image, which definitely happened. Even if it still isn’t quite perfect, it’s a lot better.
And, as for tidying up the rest of the site, my new links bar down the side, relocated archives section and emoji key go a long way towards reaching that goal. Though I’m sure there’ll still be a few tweaks on the way later.
Then, there was adding ingredients lists to my posts, which has become a standard feature by this point. Even something that naturally works its way into my writing, a lot of the time.
Not that I don’t have to force it on occasion but hey, better ingredients segues will come with time, as I get more used to their inclusion.
Then, Finally, there was my pledge to review less record level sauces. Going back through my 2018 posts, it’s easy to see that I accomplished that. The majority of what I tried that year was mild or medium, with a decent selection of hots and only a few, flavour-focussed, reaper and scorpion sauces.
Aside from The Chilli Factory’s Scorpion Strike and my birthday special, nothing even came close to my ten out of ten. Which is, perhaps, just a bit too far in the opposite direction.
So you’ll be seeing a bit more from me on the superhot side this year but not too much. It’s not something that I intend to focus on like back in 2017.
No, what I most intend to focus on this year is clearing my backlog. The written and video reviews that have accumulated, without getting posted, over the last year and a bit. Starting, most notably, with that Jay’s Peach Ghost Scorpion sauce later this very month.
I won’t be putting it, or anything else, off for much longer. Because 2019 is going to be my year of getting stuff done. A case of “Out with the old, in with the new.” in order to let me improve production values.
I’m looking into better cameras, better lighting, a better microphone and just, in general, improving the look and feel of everything that I do.
Yet the actual content of what I write will be changing very little, with my one big plan being to provide a few more mini recipes with the items that I cover.
So I’ll see you for the first of those real soon, dear readers, and I hope you find my intentions, moving forward, agreeable.
If there’s anything else that you wish to see change, do feel free to pop a comment down below or contact me via the link up top. I’d love to hear your thoughts on both this and my content in general.
Cheers,
Coran “Spicefreak” Sloss
